Kellswater Flute Band took part in the Ninetieth Northern Ireland Band’s Association Championship of Ireland Contest recently, this year the venue was moved from the Ulster Hall to the Market Place Theatre Armagh, due to extensive renovation work being carried out at the Belfast venue.

Competing in the Grade 2 Section with four bands entered, Kellswater were awarded first place with 95 points by adjudicator Hughina Naylor from Scotland. The prize for the best interpretation of the set test piece - Semiramide was also awarded to their conductor Glen Houston.

Since moving up to the Grade 2 Section, Kellswater have secured two consecutive second places in the NIBA Contest in 2005 and 2006, missing out last year by just one point to Cahard Flute Band. However, as the local outfit begin a series of events to celebrate their 60th Anniversary, they delivered a winning performance to bring the silverware back to Ballymena.
